Layali Lubnan (Lebanese nights) dessert recipe
This is a well-known Arabic dessert made of milk, semolina and thick cream. It is a dessert of two layers, the bottom is thick and the top layer is smooth and creamy.
The cream topping is sweet enough with the addition of the icing sugar; however you can also add some sugar syrup for more sweetness if preferred.
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Cooling time:1-3 hours
Makes: 24 pieces
Ingredients:
• 3 cup milk
• 1 cup semolina
• 1 tbs granulated sugar
• 1 tbs orange blossom water
Topping:
• 160g cream
• 2 tbs icing sugar (powder sugar)
Garnish:
• Crushed pistachios
• Whole almonds and walnuts
Directions:
• Makes 12 medium size pieces, or 24 small ones (as in the picture)
• Mix the milk, semolina, granulated sugar and orange blossom water all together in a large saucepan.
• Heat the mixture over high heat and keep stirring it with a whisk for about 10 minutes or until it get thickened (like custard)
• Pour the thick mixture, spread it in a tray and tap on it’s surface with a wet spatula to have a smooth surface. Put it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes
• Prepare the cream topping by mixing the cream with the powder sugar very well
• Take it out of the refrigerator and spread the thick cream evenly. Put it in the refrigerator for 1-3 hours.
• Cut it into squares, decorate them with the crushed pistachios, pour the sugar syrup (if added) and serve them cold.
المكونات:
• 3 كوب حليب
• 1 كوب سميد
• 1 ملعقة طعام سكر حبيبات
• 1 ملعقة طعام ماء زهر
• 160 غ قشطة
• 2 ملعقة طعام سكر ناعم
• فستق ناعم للتزيين
طريقة التحضير:
• اخلط الحليب مع السميد والسكر الحبيبات وماء الزهر جيدا
• ضع الخليط على نار عالية لمدة عشر دقائق أو إلى يصبح بكثافة الكاسترد
• ضع الطبقة الأولى في وعاء كبير
• اخلط القشطة مع السكر الناعم جيدا
• ضع الطبقة الثانية من القشطة
• ضع الوعاء في الثلاجة لمدة ساعة أو ثلاث ساعات
• قطعه إلى مكعبات
• زينه بالفستق الناعم والمكسرات
• تقدم باردة

Laila, I haven't seen a video from you for a while! What a wonderful dessert! I think I may make this for Ramadan .. tell me what kind of cream are you using? The texture looks different from the kind of cream we get here in Canada.
